Celebrity Chefs?

Ten years ago, there were very, very few people who could even name 1 chef, however today, especially with the advent of the Food Network, it seems there is a whole new culture of celebrity chefdom. Being a chef is no longer the menial task that it once was considered and now a potential path to glory and riches. Is their celebrity deserved? Is it just one more part of our cult of celebrity? Do you have any favorite celebrity chefs?

I think too many of them did nothing to deserve their fame. Emeril and Bobby Flay are the ultimate example of a guy whose food isn't all that great, but based on personality got a long way. However, their prominense on tv has caused people to start thinking more about what they put into their mouth which is a good thing.

As for a favorite "celebrity" chef, I'd have to say Gordon Ramsey because I respect his career and his drive.

Gordon Ramsey is very good at what he does and I respect him as a world class chef, but, and this is a big but, I could never ever work for him! haha! As far as other chefs, I admire Julia child, Lidia, the woman on pbs who does the Italian cooking show, and I also really like jamie Oliver etc.

Rachel Ray is a "celebrity" and has a "cooking" show, but she is NOT a chef, something she would admit.
